RR35/RR36: When do I need to use the built-in preamp?
When using a turntable with our EB30 Powered Bookshelf speakers, you will need to use a preamp, whether it's built into the turntable or external.
A preamp is needed to boost the low audio signal from the turntable to "Line Level". Without this, the volume would be very low.
On the other hand, if you have speakers that have their own preamp, or you are using an A/V receiver or amplifier with a preamp, you will need to choose which preamp to use. The use of two preamps can result in excessive distortion and noise.
